The Phlebotomy Technician course is designed to teach students the knowledge and skills of basic phlebotomy. The course includes didactic and hands-on instruction including simulation and clinical experiences. Students will learn the concepts of Basic Phlebotomy and Infection Control, Medical Terminology, Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology, Phlebotomy Equipment and Supplies, Phlebotomy Procedures, Fundamental Essentials of Phlebotomy, Legal Issues in Healthcare, and much more! In addition to didactic and clinical experiences, students will receive instruction and practice professional behavior and developmental skills.
Requirements for the Program:
- Current enrollment in Topeka area public school district 501 (or approved surrounding area school) as student entering or completing (or having just graduated)
- Age 17 before the first clinical date
- Reliable transportation to and from clinical sites and during each clinical session
- Meets clinical site requirements for vaccines and student health
- Clinicals sites require students to have the following:
- Photo identification
- Drug test and background check
- Documentation of personal health insurance
- Record of vaccinations: Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap
- Negative TB test
- Flu and COVID vaccines, or documented exemptions
- Students will be provided with classroom materials and scrubs.
