Teaching as a Profession

Pathway focus areas include: human development, educational history and theories, quality teacher traits, planning & preparation, the learning environment, instruction, student achievement, high need areas, diversity, ethics, career planning and job hunting skills, and professional responsibilities in the workplace.

Students will learn 21st century skills, technology, and professional writing to prepare them to be college and career-ready and the education career field. They will journey to a place in the future where education and teaching will be transformational. Students will be able to experience a rewarding profession where they can truly make a difference in people.

Professional Certificate/Industry Recognized Credential:

  • ParaEducator-students who complete the pathway will take the ParaPro exam in the Spring. Passing the exam will make them employable as a paraprofessional is any Title I school.

Recommended Prerequisite: Career & Life Planning

Sequence of Courses:

Semester 1

  • Teaching as a Career 1 credit (2281)
  • Teaching Observation .5 credit (2300)

Semester 2

  • Teaching Observation .5 credit (2300)
  • Teaching Internship .5 credit (2299)

New students may enter the pathway at semester, in January. They would start with Teaching as a Career and Teaching Observation.
